Zinc Oxide Varistors

The HVR zinc oxide (ZnO) varistors have high voltage dependences and high current absorption. They are manufactured mainly as discs with varying sizes, as the required electric values are most easily obtained with these geometric dimensions.

Our ZnO varistors, also known as metal-oxide varistors (MOV), have a higher energy rating than comparable silicon carbide ceramics, a higher continuous power rating and an extended temperature range up to 125°C.

Typical applications include:

• Overvoltage and lightning protection in power transmission lines
• Consumption in switch contacts with inductive load
• Overvoltage protection in transformers, motor generator windings and magnet coils
• Protecting machines in B to B and B to C applications
